First thing I noticed from my second visit was the cleanliness of the airport. Several passport checks before the gate boarding. Good selection of food choices. Could use more retail shopping stores. United ticket counter process was horrendous and needs improvement by United Airlines. Great outdoor Starbucks patio.

Enjoying Outdoor Terraces & Diverse Dining at Terminal 1

I love this airport as it has outdoor terraces once you have gone through check-in, so great for smokers and those who like to continue to get a bit of sun while they wait to fly. There were a lot of shops selling sandwiches, which I didn’t fancy, and a couple of tapas shops too in the airport (T1) as well as your usual coffee shops.

Reminder for Connecting Passengers

Be warned that if you are connecting here and you had liquids from duty free bring a receipt as they take them off you at transfer security. The security staff were rude and abrupt and passport control did not even say anything. The airport itself is modern, clean and had plenty of outlets to choose from.

Lack of Sleeping Areas and Presence of Homeless

For the airport this big and with so much traffic it is embarising to not have a sleeping area or something like that. It is imposibble to lay down a bit anywhere apart from the floor. Also a lot of homeless people around the entrance for the metro

Neglected Maintenance and Inefficient Scanning Process

Dirty, bad maintained airport. 1 little scan for all passagiers arriving in Terminal 2. This costed us our connecting flight in terminal 1. Horror long line to check ALL suit cases from arriving passengers .

Vast Airport with Ample Amenities but Limited Dining Options

The airport is massive and well equipped with amenities, it’s easy to get here and there are also free transfer buses between the terminals which is very convenient. There are many boutiques, stores and cafes, however you can only get small bites. If you are quite hungry, there are no places that offer proper meals. Moreover, the toilets are filthy.

Efficient and Beautiful Hub with Limited Post-Security Dining Options

Big beautiful airport, the main air travel hub in Barcelona. Was easy to get dropped off, check in, give them our bags, and get through passport control. Super fluid process, like someone really put some time and effort into it. I celebrate their alacrity and diligence. When we arrived it was equally easy to deplane, get our baggage from the carousel, and get our cab to the hotel. These things matter. El pollo de cerdo. Conmigos. After passport control there aren’t very many options for dining and whatnot. There are a couple of duty-free spots and one Cafe. So maybe get your grub on before that security check point. But you can also go to the restaurant so don’t fret. And check your ego, amigo. Lol. Enjoy!

We have flown in and out of this clean and modern airport on a number of occasions (Terminal 2, Ryanair) and have found the experience to be particularly good. Fast transit through security / passport control and can highly recommend the Mussol restaurant airside which serves particularly decent food at a reasonable price. Note that the Ryanair App shows your boarding gate quite some time before it is announced in the airport so you do not have to make a mad rush to depart.

Uncomfortable Seating & Unhelpful Staff

Didn’t like the airport that much. Their gate seats are not comfortable and for the most part you are sitting a bit far from your actual gate. The staff is not helpful, security is slow and meaner than most airport. Their VAT refund table is super slow esp if you need physical stamps. Def show up early if you’re flying international.

Efficient Airport Experience Marred by Lack of Vegan Options

Terminal 1 is well signposted and the boards are kept upto date pretty regularly. The staff are helpful and made for an expedient check-in, security clearance and gate arrival. The reason I give it a 2 stars is because we walked around for a while and found nothing vegan which we could eat for an evening meal at the airport, even McDonald’s and Burger King had no plant based options so we went without an evening meal that day.
